The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for the recently independent South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996.

The UNMISS has published a job vacancy announcement on 18th December 2023 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Political Affairs Officer to be based in Juba, South Sudan.

UNMISS Job Vacancy 2024

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Juba, in the Office of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General/Political (DSRSG/P). Juba is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The Political Affairs Officer will report to the Senior Advisor and Head of Office of the DSRSG/P.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, social science, economics, law, public administration, or a related field. A first university degree with a combination of two years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree or equivalent.

Work Experience:

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, international relations, law, or related field is required.
Experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice and reporting is required.
Experience in providing advice on political developments and mandate implementation is required.
Prior experience in support of elections and constitution-making process is desirable.
Experience with intergovernmental organization, International organization working with senior officials in an advisor capacity is required.
Experience working in a conflict or post-conflict setting in the region is required.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both written and oral) is required.
