Roles and Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the research protocol development, submission and approval
  • To identify and (co-)conduct inception meetings and talks in Isingiro with key stakeholders (OPM; colleague NGOs etc)
  • To plan and adjust activities required for the success of the project, providing feedback and based on the discussions with the researcher
  • To lead communication between the research team and study population (i.e. school leadership, teachers) and other study participants (learners, and their caregivers)
  • To establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive dialogue between stakeholders
  • To document feedback, learnings, challenges and adaptation from implementation
  • To support with preparations, mobilisation and logistics
  • To co-facilitate and participate in the study trainings and practice to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out the data collection.
  • To seek consent from the main target group (school leadership; teachers) or assent from primary school children to participate, together with consent from their caregivers.
  • To enter responses accurately (without alterations or omissions) during the interviews onto the notebooks/dairies
  • To liaise with the researcher on reporting issues to ensure understanding and to maintain accuracy.
  • To work within a team and have a professional and ethical attitude towards all the research stakeholders (upholding child safeguarding principles at all times).
  • To use feedback provided positively to improve data collection quality.
  • Is able and willing to travel in refugee settlements (transport is provided).
  • To attend and participate in meetings when needed.

Position in Organization:

  • Position: Research Officer – Stretch Project
  • Location: Isingiro, Uganda
  • Reports to: Researcher Stigma Reduction

Qualification:

  • Degree in a relevant study, such as Education, Social sciences, Development studies, health, child protection, M&E, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in conducting surveys preferably with children and/or adults in the refugee setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience in conducting field-based research or data collection.
  • Experience in research, monitoring and evaluation is desirable.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and type in English.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken).
  • Experience working in a humanitarian context i.e., challenging environment with limited oversight
  • Experience with relevant stakeholders i.e., engaging with caregivers/parents with children.
  • Able to meet deadlines and communicate delays effectively
  • Having a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Be a child-friendly person and act in the best interest of a child
  • Having the ability to document and produce concise, informative and appropriate written documentation
  • Having excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal focus group discussion moderation and note-taking skills.
  • Having facilitation and interview skills. i.e., the ability to transcribe qualitative interviews.
  • Is eager to learn, ask questions and provide feedback on how to do things better. Shares where something did not go well to learn from it together.
