The FHI 360 has published a job vacancy announcement on January 17, 2024 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of Maternal Newborn and Child Health Technical Director to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

FHI 360 Job Vacancy 2024

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Provide management and technical leadership to design and implementation of programming for improved MCH outcomes.
  • Provide supervisory and operational oversight of MCH technical staff to ensure that the project meets intended goals, quality standards, and reporting requirements, including ensuring smooth linkages and cross-leveraging with other program areas (e.g., nutrition, health systems strengthening) and with GoU structures at national and subnational level.
  • Ensure high quality technical deliverables—including workplans and annual reports—are developed, submitted and approved on schedule and within budget parameters.
  • Develop and implements processes and procedures to achieve strategic technical goals of the project.
  • Provide direction to ensure technical activities are compliant with client agreements, government regulations and the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Respond to client requests and questions on technical matters and ensures timely drafts and submissions of consents, approvals and/or waivers.
  • Coordinate effective engagement and communication with other technical leads and staff; ensures coordination and collaboration with partners and other stakeholders
  • Support the Project Director to ensure that all areas of the project maximize the use of available project resources.
  • Represent the project in key national and subnational forums and help maintain strong relationships with the donor and Government of Uganda at all levels, project partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with host country government structures and other implementing partners to reach a common understanding of the project, avoid duplication, strengthen, and coordinate implementation.

Qualification:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in medicine, public health, health management, social science, or a related field required.
  • At least 12+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing large, complex donor-funded health programs in Uganda or relevant context.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in MCH programming and familiarity with one or more of the following program areas (family planning, HSS, nutrition, quality improvement).
  • Strong understanding of the Ugandan health system; experience working in urban/peri-urban settings preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience in use of data to drive program implementation.
  • Practical experience in application of the science of quality improvement at service delivery and program management level.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with host country government personnel, stakeholders, NGO partners, and international donor agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workflow.
  • Relevant computer software skills, including at a minimum MS Office.
