The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA or ECA) was established in 1958 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to encourage economic cooperation among its member states (the nations of the African continent) following a recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly. It is one of five regional commissions.

The UNECA has published a job vacancy announcement on 01st March, 2024 for qualified Ethiopia’s to fill in the vacant post of Senior CRVS Expert to be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This post is located at the African Centre for Statistics of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Division and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Demographic and Social Statistics, the consultant will be responsible for undertaking evidence-based research which will result in the transformation and modernization of civil registration, vital statistics, and identity management for African countries to reach universal coverage of vital events.
The consultant is expected to spend the first three months and last three months at the ECA is Addis Ababa.
However, the working arrangements can be worked with the line supervisor to ensure proper briefing of assignments, review of outputs and monitoring the delivery of the outputs.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or higher) in a field related to Demography, Population Studies, Social Sciences, Development studies and related areas.
A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree 10.

Language Requirements:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English or French is required. Knowledge of the other language is advantageous.
