The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.
The UN Habitat has published a job vacancy announcement on 10 March 2023 for qualified Kenya’s to fill in the vacant post of Administrative Assistant to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Responsibilities:
Within delegated authority, the Administrative Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Enters, maintains, and certifies administrative data and records for time and attendance, performance appraisal, etc. in electronic information systems.
- Reviews entitlements-related claims and reports.
- Provides advice and guidance to the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team with respect to administrative procedures, processes, and practices, liaising with UN-Habitat’s relevant units and sections as well as and UNON as necessary.
- Maintains and reviews organizational staffing tables; prints and reviews UMOJA reports.
- Prepares, initiates and reviews IPRM related process, specifically concerning budgets and finance.
- Monitors status of expenditures and allotments through UMOJA system, records variations, updates budget tables concerning the team’s activities and projects
Qualification:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.
Experience:
- At least seven (5) years of experience in administrative services, finance, accounting, audit, human resources or related area is required. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
- Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as Umoja, is desirable. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
- Experience within the United Nations common system or similar International Organizations is desirable. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
