IGCP Uganda looking for “Head of Programs”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

The IGCP has published a job vacancy announcement on January 18, 2024 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of Head of Programs to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and diversification of the organization’s program portfolio.
  • Take lead of the initiation and implementation of the organization’s program/project activities.
  • Establish and implement structures that support efficient capacity building, and financial management and mobilize program/project resources.
  • Document and publish best practices of the organizations’ Programs/Projects.
  • Organize policy advocacy initiatives on key programmatic issues.

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Science in the area of Ecology, Forestry or any related field.
  • Training in project planning and management.
  • Program coordination and budgeting as well as supervision of a very dynamic team of highly qualified personnel
  • At least Five (5) years of working experience in a senior management position.
  • Biodiversity conservation, Climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Conservation Finance and Land trust management.
  • Knowledge of global and national conservation, climate, and development issues in the environmental / biodiversity sector.
  • Community-based approaches to program implementation at the field level; including livelihood.
  • Improvement, feedback & grievance redress processes etc.
  • Policy level engagement skills at National and International level.
  • Budgeting and Work-planning skills.
  • Documentation, Reporting, Monitoring, and evaluation skills.
  • Team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
  • Knowledge of Computer applications like word processing, spreadsheets and data analysis as well as desktop publishing, internet, and e-mail.
  • Dynamic and innovative leadership, with ability to oversee and coordinate a complex and diverse programme, ensuring connectivity within the Key Result Areas and with other units and departments.
  • Mission directed, visionary, proactive with good sense of judgment/discernment.
  • Able to create partnerships with multiple stakeholders at local, national & international level coordination.
  • Be adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments, juggle multiple demands and to work with all levels within the institution.
  • Strong skills in influencing, relationship building and problem solving.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented but able to quickly grasp the big picture.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity and good moral character.
