The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for the recently independent South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996.

The UNMISS has published a job vacancy announcement on 15th May 2023 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Air Operations Assistant to be based in Juba, South Sudan.

UNMISS Job Vacancy 2023

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the Aviation Section within the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The Air Operations Assistant will be based in Juba and will report directly to the Chief, Air Operations Unit. Juba is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Job – Specific Qualification:

• Technical or vocational certificate in Air Transportation, Safety Management, Air Traffic Control or graduation from equivalent military establishment or military/air traffic control training is required.

Work Experience:

• At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation including at least 4 years in an occupation directly related to air transport operations, air traffic control/air navigation services, airport terminal operations, or aviation electronic applications is required.
• Experience in the use of ICAO standards and recommended practices is desirable.

Languages:

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
