The DRC has published a job vacancy announcement on 10th January, 2024 for qualified Ethiopians to fill in the vacant post of Economic Recovery officer to be based in Abala and Mekelle, Ethiopia.

DRC Job Vacancy 2024

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • The project officer is expected to properly understand the project and able to develop a weekly and monthly implementation plan.
  • The post holder will be required to establish a clear synergy between DRC team under his supervision and between the parallel consortium personnel’s to be on the same page while implementing the activities.
  • Expected to Develop a clear implementation modality and approaches together with his respective teams.
  • The project officer is required to submit the weekly and biweekly implementation plan, develop activity implementation ToRs.
  • Facilitation of different capacity building trainings, workshops and dialogue forum related with the project and documentation of attendance, outcome reports and other essential documents are among the other.
  • Providing a close technical support on VSLA and SME establishment, coaching of the business development activities of the beneficiaries.
  • Support the innovative financing approaches to be effectively applied on the targeted community, ensure linkage of SMEs with different FSPs, follow up on the development of Village Saving and Loan Association beneficiaries of the project.
  • Develop different progress tracking tools for every implementation of the Economic Recovery activities and identify gaps of the implementation for planning of improvement action for betterment of the achievement.
  • Provide a continues support for implementation of Early recovery interventions to the level of ensuring sustainable resilience building.
  • Ensure implementation of the proposed alternative inclusive financial alternatives to ensure engagement of SMEs in the business development sectors.
  • Ensure the proper targeting of beneficiaries and support the beneficiary verification activities of the MEAL team.
  • Closely assist the project manager on assessment, project monitoring and reporting of implementation’s.
  • Provide a financial breakdown for implementation of every project activities along with the weekly plan to be an input for budget forecast for the next month implementation.
  • Timely provide any budget request for implementation of project activities.
  • Proper documentation of each documents required for payment of services and goods.
  • Providing a clear term of reference for implementation of any project activities.
  • Support and Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the project and ensure effective integration among the consortium members, with special attention for the specific needs and expectations of the project objectives/aims.
  • Ensure proper communication between the Ec. Rec team, project staff and the parallel staff of the consortium members.
  • Ensure collaboration and synergy between the consortium member project activities and similar projects, businesses and activities in the project areas.
  • Promote a positive profile of the project and good understanding among other actors and communities about the project.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders at filed level.

Position in Organization:

  • Title: Economic Recovery Officer
  • Location: Afar, Abaala and Tigray, Mekele (Kindly indicate clearly on your application for which duty station you would like to apply)
  • Employment Category: H2
  • Salary Range: USD 540.00 – 656.00 per month which specific amount will be determined up on candidates experience and educational relevancy
  • Reporting To: ER-CAP Project Manager
  • Contract Duration: December 31, 2024 with possibilities of extension

  • Required Employee: 2 (One for Abaala and One for Mekelle).

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • BA in Development Economics; Development management, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Cooperative and SMEs development or other relevant fields, or Bachelors with relevant work experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-year experience in areas of Livelihood development, alternative financing like VSLAs, financial inclusion, Micro and small enterprise development, Business development.
  • Experience working in and deep understanding of Village Savings Loans Associations (VSLAs) and private sector engagement and/or implementing livelihoods/self-reliance, gender mainstreaming, peacebuilding/social cohesion, protection or advocacy interventions within financial inclusion programming context.

Language:

  • English (fluent, spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of Afar and Tigrigna language is an advantage.
