IGCP Uganda looking for “OCS Engineer”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

The IGCP has published a job vacancy announcement on May 06, 2024 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of OCS Engineer to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide technical support for BSS applications and product operations.
Troubleshoot issues, capture logs, and identify root causes for BSS application problems.
Communicate with clients regarding technical aspects of the applications.
Fulfill new function or business improvement requirements through product configuration.
Maintain Linux backend/file system, perform database analysis, and install new application patches/releases.
Install, configure, and maintain testing beds, working with other IT vendors as needed.
Monitor and reconcile database performance to predefined thresholds and take appropriate actions.
Implement established policies and procedures for database management.
Perform application automation and script writing, and maintain IT operation tools.
Ensure accurate documentation of standards, guidelines, and procedures for application management.
Train new employees on basic troubleshooting methods.
Prepare system health and performance reports.
Implement and support audit and compliance regulations.

Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or Computer Science.
Minimum 2 years of IT industry experience, with at least 1 year in billing/charging on telecom systems.
Experience with Oracle or MSSQL databases.
Proficiency in operating systems (Linux, UNIX, or AIX).
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, Python, or Java.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Fluent English communication skills.
Ability to provide 24×7 service supervision through urgent office support and on-call support.
