The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, commonly known as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) or the United Nations Human Rights Office, is a department of the Secretariat of the United Nations that works to promote and protect human rights that are guaranteed under international law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.
The OHCHR has published a job vacancy announcement on 13th May 2024 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Human Rights Officer/ Open-Source Investigator to be based in Juba, South Sudan.
OHCHR Job Vacancy 2024
Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located within the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan, based in Juba, South Sudan. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of Investigations and under the direct supervision of the Forensics Specialist in the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan.
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required.
- Out of the (5) years, at least two (2) years of experience in online open-source investigation/analysis/verification in the field of international human rights activities and/or international criminal investigations is desirable.
- Experience with analytical and investigation software (such as i2 Analyst Notebook, SILO, GIS software, or any other digital investigation and/or analysis software) is desirable.
- Relevant working experience in / on the region is desirable.
Languages:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
