IGCP Uganda looking for “Laboratory Chemist”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

The IGCP has published a job vacancy announcement on March 19, 2024 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of Laboratory Chemist to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain good working conditions of equipment and tools.
Ensure good storage and monitoring of representative samples.
Undertake chemical tests on leady oxide, residual lead, etc.
Carry out and correct sample preparations and metal alloy analysis using OES, AAS, ICP.
Routine sampling and testing of treated wastewater quality.
Compliance with health and safety guidelines.
Preparation of daily, weekly test reports.
Carry out internal calibration of all equipment in the laboratory.
Inspection of received raw material (battery scrap and plate scrap).

Qualification:

Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in Science Laboratory, Industrial Chemistry Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering
A minimum of 1-year experience
Knowledge of ISO 9001, EOHS guidelines, Kaizen and Cleaner Technology
Experience with HACCP, PDCA, Kaizen 5s and material storage.
Laboratory and trouble shooting skills.
Communication and decision making skills.
Planning and organizing skills.
Analytical interpretation of laboratory results.
