The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.
The UN Habitat has published a job vacancy announcement on 15 April 2023 for qualified Kenya’s to fill in the vacant post of Project Coordinator to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of the Data and Analytics Unit and/or his designate, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Coordinate all project activities and set timeframes, with comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports are maintained;
- Provide timely input and feedback on the project deliverables and progress reports in consultation with the project’s lead, the national consultant and make amendments and suggestions as necessary;
- Facilitate capacity building activities including submission of reports on the methodological and dissemination workshops to be organized in participating countries and cities.
- Prepare project technical documents (tools, guidelines, manuals, etc.).
Qualification & Experience:
- Advanced university degree in urban management, sociology and related field that is relevant for sustainable urban and regional development is required.
- At least 5 years’ post qualification experience, with focus on land governance, project management in developing countries in general is required.
- Experience in the coordination and drafting of project reports is required. Strong writing skills and good record of publications on relevant areas and ability to package information for a variety of audiences such as researchers, programmers, policy makers and members of the public is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required
