The UNICEF has published a job vacancy announcement on March 27, 2024 for qualified Uganda’s to fill in the vacant post of Education Specialist to be based in Kampala, Uganda.
UNICEF Job Vacancy 2024
Programme development and planning with a particular focus on the second decade, OOSC and skills development.
- Support the preparation, design and updating of the situation analysis for the education programmes to ensure that current and comprehensive data on education issues, including education humanitarian response, is available to guide UNICEF’s strategic policy, advocacy, intervention and development efforts on education programmes.
- Participate in strategic programme discussions on the planning of education programmes. Formulate, design, and prepare programme proposals for the sector, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans and Country Programme and coherence/integration with the UN Development Assistance
- Framework (UNDAF), regional strategies and national priorities, plans and competencies.
- Help the supervisor set priorities, strategies, design, and implementation plans. Keep abreast of development trends to enhance programme management, efficiency, and delivery.
- Ensure timely and quality implementation of UNICEF programme interventions under a joint programming initiative PROSPECT with UNHCR, ILO, IFC and the World Bank in refugee hosting districts in Uganda as well as UNICEF-implemented component of the EU-funded action “Gender for Development Uganda” (G4DU).
- Establish specific goals, objectives, strategies, and implementation plans for the sector using results-based planning terminology and methodology (RBM).
- Prepare required documentation for programme review and approval.
- Work closely and collaboratively with internal colleagues and partners to discuss strategies and methodologies and to determine national priorities to ensure the achievement of concrete and sustainable results, including education refugee response.
- Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of programming processes, ensuring integration, coherence, and harmonization of programmes/projects with other UNICEF sectors and the achievement of results as planned and allocated.
Eligibility criteria
- An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
- Candidates with equivalent work experience and a BA degree can be also considered.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or education research- particularly in the field of education for OOSC, girls’ education and skilling of adolescents and youths is required.
- Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
- Fluency in English (including excellent writing skills) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (or a local language is an asset.
