The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for the recently independent South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996.
The UNMISS has published a job vacancy announcement on 11th December 2023 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Electoral Officer to be based in Juba, South Sudan.
UNMISS Job Vacancy 2023
Org. Setting and Reporting: The United Nations Security Council Resolution 2677 (2023) mandates UNMISS to support inclusive and accountable governance and free, fair and peaceful elections at different levels and for different bodies and positions, in accordance with the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). The position is based in Juba within the Electoral Affairs Division. The Electoral Officer (Legal) will be under the direct supervision of the Senior Electoral Officer.
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science international economics, international relations, law, public administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in elections and related areas in at least three (3) countries is required.
- At least three (3) years of experience in supervising, implementing, supporting or advising on electoral processes is required.
- United Nations electoral experience in a peacekeeping operation, political mission and/or a UN agency or other relevant international electoral experience is required.
- Experience in developing countries and in post-conflict situations is required.
- Experience in supporting national institutions in addressing electoral legal framework and electoral process related topics, such as electoral disputes, or other electoral assistance experience is desirable.
- Previous experience of managing diverse team is desirable.
- Experience in bilateral or multilateral negotiations is desirable.
Languages:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
