IGCP Zambia looking for “Psychosocial Associate Counsellors”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.
The IGCP has published a job vacancy announcement on 25th April, 2024 for qualified Zambians to fill in the vacant post of Psychosocial Associate Counsellors to be based in Lusaka, Zambia.

Job Responsibilities;
- Provide counselling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to students, staff, and families as appropriate to the position; prepare session plans and follow-up care programs; provide therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required.
- Record all counselling sessions, ensuring all information is up to date.
- Provide and/or arrange counselling interventions as appropriate for students in a crisis condition and those with serious disturbance problems.
- Refers students, youth leaders, staff and parents to appropriate service agencies as required.
- Participates in the review of counselling/safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Participates in, leads, and/or coordinates training sessions and workshops to enhance treatment skills.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirement:
- Diploma/Degree in Psychosocial/Trauma counselling or related field.
- Ability to apply mental health counselling methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluation skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counselling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
- Ability to evaluate the progress of counselling sessions and to make individual modifications.
- Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to the learner’s rights.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
