IGCP South Africa looking for “Research Associate”.

IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional Afromontane Forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.
The IGCP has published a job vacancy announcement on 16th May 2024 for qualified South Africa’s to fill in the vacant post of Research Associate to be based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research Support: Assist in Data Collection (Weighting 40%)
- Enrol, consent and reimburse research participants
- Conduct individual surveys, administer quantitative surveys
- Manage the scheduling of participants
- Manage electronic data devices and transfer of data to safe electronic storage
Data handling and administration: Participate in Data cleaning and quality control (Weighting 30%)
- Code qualitative data and create summaries
- Enter quantitative data into database and participate in data cleaning
- Participate in data interpretation and analyses as directed
- Ensure Data queries are resolved as soon as possible.
- Ensure that all questionnaires when received have a consent form attached which is then stored separately from the questionnaire
- Ensure that all logs are correctly completed
- Use software to manage data and run basic analyses. Works with the analysis team to modify and clarify codes when developed
Research support: Paper writing/major contribution to paper (Weighting 20%)
- To contribute to a presentation of this data and information in the session
- Offer relevant support in the development of papers
- Willing to assist in paper writing and presentation
Administration and Reporting (Weighting 10%)
- Maintain a professional and collegial relationship with the Shout staff and investigators on all research projects.
- Maintain participant confidentiality
- Undergo courses for personal development
- Any other duties, as assigned by the line manager, in line with the role.
Eligibility Criteria
- University qualification in the health, social sciences or related field (Honors degree advantageous).
- Experience in Quantitative research experience is advantageous.
- Any experience and/or knowledge and/or passion in the health programs specifically in Adolescents Girls & Young Women (AGYW) fields and with adolescents will be a great advantageous.
- Fluent in English.
