The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for the recently independent South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996.

The UNMISS has published a job vacancy announcement on 22nd February 2024 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Chief of Section to be based in Juba, South Sudan.

UNMISS Job Vacancy 2024

Org. Setting and Reporting: The position is based in Juba, South Sudan. The incumbent will report to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan (DSRSG/RC/HC) and to the Director of UNMAS. In South Sudan, UNMAS is an integral component of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), providing explosive ordnance threat mitigation in support of the safety and security of peacekeepers, humanitarian partners and communities, while working to empower the National Mine Action Authority to assume responsibility for mine action in the longer term.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, management, international relations, law or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in programme administration, management, budget, finance, human resources management or related field is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in the management of programmes and/or projects in the area of mine action, stabilization, DDR, humanitarian response and/or development, with a minimum of two years of managerial experience is required.
A minimum of five years of experience working in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization in a conflict or post-conflict environment is required.
At least of two years’ experience engaging with senior government officials in a complex humanitarian or United Nations peacekeeping setting is desirable.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
