The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, commonly known as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) or the United Nations Human Rights Office, is a department of the Secretariat of the United Nations that works to promote and protect human rights that are guaranteed under international law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

The OHCHR has published a job vacancy announcement on 14th March 2024 for qualified South Africa’s to fill in the vacant post of Information Management Officer to be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

OHCHR Job Vacancy 2024

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), in Southern Africa. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Regional Representative for Southern Africa as part of the Regional Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in geographic information systems, information science, information systems, social science or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

Work Experience:

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in geographic information systems, modern archives management, record keeping, library, information management or related area is required.
At least two years of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Experience with design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud is desirable.
Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS and QGIS is desirable.
Field experience with the United Nations Common system or similar international organization is desirable.
Experience managing human rights information is desirable.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
