The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is a United Nations peacekeeping force in Abyei, which is contested between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. UNISFA was approved on 27 June 2011 by the United Nations Security Council in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 after a flareup in the South Kordofan conflict earlier in June 2011.

The UNISFA has published a job vacancy announcement on 26th March 2024 for qualified South Sudanese to fill in the vacant post of Political Affairs Officer to be based in Juba, South Sudan.

UNISFA Job Vacancy 2024

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Juba. The incumbent will report to the Acting Head of Mission through the Chief of Staff or their designate.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Management or Development, or a related field is required. A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Job – Specific Qualification:

Professional training or certification in international relations and strategic studies is required.
Professional training in the areas of planning, monitoring and evaluation, facilitation and/or coordination is desirable.

Work Experience:

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.
