The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.
The UN Habitat has published a job vacancy announcement on 06 March 2024 for qualified Kenya’s to fill in the vacant post of Team Assistant to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2024
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs general administrative tasks (e.g. leave and attendance recording, arrangements for meetings and other events, reservations, budget follow-up, etc.), to include preparing and/or processing administrative requests/documents (e.g. requisitions, purchase orders, travel requests, contracts, expenditure authorizations, visa applications, etc.).
- Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit.
- Assists in providing software and office equipment support.
- Provides guidance to less experienced staff on general office processes and procedures, computer applications, etc.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental training in administration, human resource management or any other related field is desirable.
Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in Business Administration, Human Resource, general administration or related area is required.
- The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
- Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.
