IGCP was formed in 1991 to address the long-term conservation of the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and its regional afromontane forest habitat in the Virunga Bwindi Landscape. Our aim has been to work together as a single gorilla conservation program in order to expand and consolidate the successes of the Mountain Gorilla Project and other initiatives at a regional level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Academic Leadership: Collaborate with the Principal and other school leaders to develop and implement the school’s academic vision, goals, and strategies. Provide leadership and support to teachers, ensuring high-quality instruction and a focus on student learning outcomes.
  • Curriculum Development and Implementation: Oversee the development, review, and alignment of the school’s curriculum to meet educational standards and goals. Work with curriculum coordinators and teachers to ensure effective curriculum implementation, including lesson planning, instructional resources, and assessment strategies.
  • Instructional Supervision and Support: Observe classroom instruction, provide feedback, and support teachers in implementing effective teaching strategies and techniques. Collaborate with teachers to enhance instructional practices, differentiate instruction, and address the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Professional Development: Identify professional development needs of teachers and coordinate opportunities for ongoing training and growth. Support the implementation of professional learning communities, workshops, and other initiatives to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Academic Planning: Develop academic plans and strategies to achieve the school’s educational objectives and student learning outcomes. Ensure the availability and effective use of learning resources, including technology, libraries, and educational materials.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Oversee the development and implementation of assessment policies, procedures, and practices within the school. Ensure the use of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, analyze data, and provide timely feedback to students and teachers.
  • Academic Support Services: Coordinate and oversee academic support services, such as tutoring, intervention programs, and enrichment activities. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to address the specific needs of students requiring additional academic support. Oversee assessment practices, examinations, and student evaluation to gauge academic progress and ensure fair and accurate grading. Implement support programs to assist students in their academic journey, including remedial classes and enrichment activities.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents and the wider community, providing regular communication and opportunities for engagement. Collaborate with parents and community partners to support student learning and academic success. Collaborate with parents and students to foster a positive and supportive learning environment and address academic concerns.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and utilize academic data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement efforts. Prepare reports on student achievement, academic progress, and other relevant metrics for school administration, district officials, and stakeholders—Analyze academic data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and effective teaching strategies.
  • Academic Excellence Promotion: Recognize and celebrate academic achievements to motivate students and honor exceptional performance.
  • Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure compliance and adherence to educational regulations, accreditation standards, and examination board requirements, regulations, accreditation standards, and assessment requirements set by relevant education authorities. Assist in the preparation and coordination of accreditation visits and reporting processes.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Education a master’s degree is an added advantage
  • Possession of a valid teacher’s teaching license and any relevant certifications.
  • Professional working experience of 15 Years, of which a minimum of 5 years attained in a leadership role at the same or equivalent level in sizeable working school experience.
  • Strong instructional leadership skills with a deep understanding of effective teaching strategies and curriculum development.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and guidance in shaping academic programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, educational standards, and assessment practices.
  • Skill in supporting and fostering the professional growth of teachers.
  • Capacity to analyze academic data to inform instructional decisions and school improvement strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey academic goals, plans, and progress to stakeholders.
